2011 Montserrat Poetry Festival

TANTRA-ZAWADI, SPOKEN WORD POET, AUTHOR & FILMMAKER INVITED TO PERFORM AT THE 2011 MONTSERRAT POETRY FESTIVAL

 A Day of Poetry & Music Sponsored by Montserrat Vineyards and the Missouri Arts Council

JUNE 4, 2011 (NEW YORK, NY) – Tantra-zawadi, spoken word poet, author, recording artist and filmmaker has been invited to perform at the Montserrat Poetry Festival Sunday, June 5, 2011. The Montserrat Poetry Festival, sponsored by Montserrat Vineyards and the Missouri Arts Council, will be held at the Montserrat Vineyards in Montserrat, MO.

Soulful and sublime, the poetry of Tantra-zawad’s explores love in all its forms: from the rush of the first kiss to the bittersweet.

Tantra has performed original works in the off-Broadway productions of “Girl – A Choreospective, A Night of Three God/desses: Soldier Blues and Powerful Women, An Evolution in Reinvention, the Numeral Three, Leaving My Apartment and Other Urban Adventures and projects with the vonduvoisdancecollective. Tantra’s recent appearances include the 19th Annual Austin International Poetry Festival, the New York Public Library of Performance Arts at Lincoln Center, Badilisha Poetry X-Change Festival in Cape Town, South Africa and the Montserrat Poetry Festival. Tantra is also a recipient of the Kings County District Attorney’s Office Women’s History Month Award and her poem “Girl” has been nominated for the 2010 Pushcart Prize.

Tantra’s second collection of poetry, “Gathered at Her Sky” from Poets Wear Prada Publishing (June 2010), is available at Amazon and Lulu.com.   Partial proceeds from Gathered at Her Sky will be donated to Girl-Child Network Worldwide to purchase reading lights as well as provide for educational needs and personal items for girls in Zimbabwe.
